If you have surgery, then it is like wearing the glasses all the time, and you can’t take them off. Thus you will need to put on readers in your late 40s, unless we develop a cure for that problem.

There should be no hurry in making your decision, and I would first eliminate any center that tried to pressure you– they are not interested in your best interests. There is disagreement as to which is better. I suggest that you research a little more.

You could probably resume work within a few days. Although I have treated pathologists, and radiologists, I do worry that a small decrease in the quality of your vision (which is definitely possible) could adversely affect your job performance.
